When you come across leather, of shoes and/or leather products, you might wonder how those items came to be. What you should know is that leather undergoes a lengthy process from the point of being a raw material to being a finished product. Since the inception of human race evolution, leather processing stepping and practising is evolving still with its own glamour.

There are varieties known processes, and they are:

• Wet processing

• Tanning process

• Retanning and Dyeing Process

• Finishing

Leather engineers, leather technologists or technicians use and do a lot for hide and skin or leather processing and after the raw skin parts react with a lot of chemicals, the leather will take on a new look. This look will be extremely different from the raw hides and skin, and there will be notable differences in the chemical, physical, and organoleptic properties of the leather.

SYNTANS

We have a number of synthetic tanning agents that are employed in the process of transforming leather. The word SYNTAN is derived from the words Syntetic and Tannin. SYNTANs were invented in the ‘30s and they have been prominent ever since. SYNTANs used in leather tanning include:

Fatliqouring is the act of putting oil into tanning processs in and after retanning and dyeing process . But the fatliquors are applied in a way that the leather get optimum softness without being loose and all the leather fibers are well lubricated and easily slided over these as well.
